COMPUSERVE MAIL HUB PROVIDES FULL SUPPORT
FOR NOVELL'S NEW E-MAIL STANDARD
COLUMBUS, Ohio, Sept. 20, 1993 -- CompuServe Incorporated
announced today that users of the CompuServe Mail Hub can
take full advantage of Novell Inc.'s NetWare Remote MHS and
NetWare Global MHS via CompuServe's support of SMF-71, the
latest version of Novell's application programmer's
interface (API).
SMF-71 is one of the support features built into
NetWare Remote MHS 2.0, whose availability was announced by
Novell today.
The CompuServe Mail Hub gives local area network and
stand-alone personal computer users the ability to exchange
electronic mail cost-effectively, conveniently and reliably
with other NetWare MHS, NetWare Global MHS and NetWare
Remote MHS users, as well as with more than 1.4 million
CompuServe Information Service members worldwide. The hub
service facilitates the exchange of messages through a store-
and-forward process via, in most cases, a local phone call
from the MHS user to the CompuServe Network.
"CompuServe is pleased to continue across-the-board
support for Novell's messaging products, and for the MHS-
compatible products from hundreds of software developers,"
said Dave Bezaire, CompuServe senior product manager. "As
the largest worldwide MHS hub service, we worked closely
with Novell as they developed NetWare Remote MHS. We look
forward to continuing to make affordable connectivity
services available to all segments of the stand-alone and
LAN-based e-mail markets."
Included in the CompuServe Mail Hub's support for SMF-
71 are workgroup long names, server long names, automatic
downgrading or upgrading of messages sent by users of SMF-70
and SMF-71, and no loss of addressing information when using
SMF-71.
The CompuServe Mail Hub works in conjunction with any
MHS-compatible package, including WinMail (Finansa); The
Coordinator and DaVinci eMAIL (DaVinci Systems); BeyondMail
(Beyond); cc:Mail (Lotus); Microsoft Mail (Microsoft);
WordPerfect Office (WordPerfect); Team (Futurus); Expressit!
(Infinite Technologies); Pegasus (David Harris - shareware);
MailMAN (Reach); Notework (Notework); Network Scheduler
III(Powercore); CompletE-Mail (Transend); FirstMail
(Novell); QuickMail (CE Software); and Framework (Borland).
"CompuServe is a well-known provider of MHS hub
services," said Rick Bohdanowicz, marketing director of the
Messaging Products Division for Novell, Inc. "Support for
our latest native messaging API, SMF-71, and for NetWare
Remote MHS, demonstrates CompuServe's commitment to be a
worldwide provider of uncompromising connectivity for MHS
users."
The CompuServe Mail Hub provides gateways to Advantis,
AT&T EasyLink, Infonet, the Internet, MCI Mail and
SprintMail at no additional charge, as well as the ability
to send messages to facsimile machines at CompuServe's
standard fax rates.
CompuServe Incorporated provides communications and
information services to more than 1.4 million personal
computer owners worldwide through the CompuServe Information
Service. CompuServe also provides frame relay, wide and
local area networking services, business information
services and software to major corporations and government
agencies worldwide.
CompuServe is an H&R Block company.
